Usage Policy

I built brolly.sh as a personal project. I wanted a clutter free weather site, and an excuse to make something using a plain text design language.
I love that other people have found it useful too. This page sets out a few ground rules for using the site, so that it can stay up and working for everyone.

1. Personal Use
brolly.sh is intended for personal, non-commercial use. Check the forecast, share a link with a friend, put it on a dashboard in your kitchen, bake it into a personal script (or whatever you feel like).
It's not intended for is being built into someone else's product or service, resold, or used as a data source for other applications.

2. Forecast Accuracy
I don't generate any weather data myself. brolly.sh just displays forecasts from open-meteo.com's models, and forecasts are predictions, not guarantees. They can and do get it wrong.
brolly.sh is provided "as is", with no warranty. I'm not liable for any loss, damage, or inconvenience arising from decisions made using the site, including cases where the underlying data or my own code gets something wrong.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute arising from use of brolly.sh is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
If the weather is critical to your wellbeing - i.e. you're heading out sailing, flying, or on a long walk somewhere remote, check an official provider as well. brolly.sh is a nice way to glance at the weather. It's not a substitute for official weather forecasts.

3. Rate Limits
brolly.sh is completley free, with no advertisement. It's a single instance PocketBase app. I pay for the app's hosting, and for the weather API calls on busy months. I don't make any money out of the site.
Rate limits are applied per IP address. Hopefully you'll never hit one! They're just there to stop any single source, accidental or otherwise, putting too much strain on the server or burning through usage limits.
If you're writing a script, cron job, or anything else that calls brolly.sh programmatically to parse weather data, please don't. Call open-meteo.com directly instead. Their API is what powers brolly.sh in the first place. They've got a very generous free tier, and you'll get more reliable, purpose-built access than scraping a page designed for humans.
Displaying brolly.sh itself is different, and 100% welcome. A browser tab on a dashboard or a wall-mounted screen with a sensible periodic refresh isn't a problem!

4. Changes
I may update this policy from time to time as the site evolves. Significant changes will be reflected here with an updated date at the top of the page.
